Many labor migrants understand Russian but are afraid to speak it. The fear of making mistakes or saying something incorrectly prevents communication. But it’s important to remember: without practice, the language will not develop.
The first rule — mistakes are normal. If you stay silent because of fear, there will be no progress.
Start with simple phrases. There is no need for long sentences. Short and clear phrases are enough:
- “How much does it cost?”
- “I need help.”
- “I didn’t understand, please repeat.”
Listen and repeat.
Pay attention to how colleagues, sellers, and neighbors speak. Repeat after them — this helps you memorize words and expressions faster.
Speak every day.
Even 10–15 minutes of practice brings results. The more often you use the language, the less fear you feel.
Don’t be afraid to ask again.
If you didn’t understand something, you can say: “Please repeat” or “I don’t speak Russian very well.” Most people react calmly to this.

The key is practice. Without practice, it’s impossible to learn a language.
