Working in Russia: What to Pay Attention to in an Empl
Have you agreed to a job in Russia? Great. Now the most important step is to carefully review and read the contract before signing it. Below is what you must check before signing the agreement:
1. The document must be in writing. Verbal agreements do not protect you. If something is not written in the contract, it is almost impossible to prove it later. Promises like “we’ll formalize it later” or “don’t worry” often lead to problems.
2. The contract must state the real name of the company or individual entrepreneur (IP). If you are working “for one person” but signing a contract with someone else, this is a violation. During an inspection, the work may be considered illegal.
3. Your job position must be clearly stated in the contract. This is important so that the job matches the profession listed in your patent. A mismatch can result in fines and cancellation of documents.
4. Salary and payment terms.
Pay attention to:
- the exact salary amount;
- how often you are paid (once a month or twice a month);
- whether payment is in cash or by bank transfer.
5. Check the section about fines and deductions. Often, contracts include penalties for lateness, “damage to property,” or customer complaints, but do not specify the amounts. The contract must clearly state what deductions can be made and how much can be withheld.

6. Working hours and days off. Check:
- how many hours per day you work;
- whether you have days off;
-whether overtime is paid.
7. Termination conditions. It is important to know how you can resign and how many days’ notice you must give. Sometimes contracts include large penalties for unexpected resignation. Make sure you understand how far in advance you must inform the employer.
Before signing, read the contract carefully and do not be afraid to ask questions. It is better to spend 10 minutes reviewing it than to lose money, your job, and your documents later.
