The first days after arriving in Russia are the most important. It is during this time that many migrants make mistakes that later lead to fines and problems with documents.
Here are 3 things you should do immediately after arrival:
1. Check your migration card
When entering Russia, you receive a migration card. Immediately check:
- whether your personal information is written correctly;
- whether the correct purpose of entry is indicated.
If you came to work, the purpose must be listed as “work.” An error in the migration card can create problems when applying for a patent.
2. Register for migration records after moving in
After settling into your accommodation, you must be registered for migration purposes. This is usually done by:
- the apartment owner;
- the employer;
- the hotel or hostel.
It is important to make sure that you have actually been registered.

Be sure to keep:
- the detachable part of the notification;
- or a copy of it.
Without registration, you may face fines and document-related problems.
3. Check whether your employer submitted a notification of your employment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Also, if you plan to work under a patent, do not delay applying for it.
