Document checks are a common situation for labor migrants in Russia. Police officers have the right to verify the legality of your stay and employment. It is important to know which documents you should always have with you.
1. Passport or another identity document. This is the main document that confirms who you are.
2. Migration card. It confirms the purpose of your entry into Russia. The correct purpose—such as “work”—must be indicated.
3. Registration at the place of stay. You must be registered at your place of residence. This document confirms the legality of your stay at that address.

4. Work patent (if you are working under a patent). It confirms your right to work. It is also advisable to have payment receipts for the patent to show that it has been extended on time.
If you do not have one of these documents with you, it may result in a fine or lead to more serious consequences. Therefore, it is better to carry the main documents with you or have copies of them.
