There are still many questions surrounding the RuID app. Do you need to install it before traveling? Is a QR code mandatory? And what should you do if the code does not appear?
Let’s take a look at how the system works in 2026.
What Is RuID For?
RuID is designed for foreign citizens who enter Russia without a visa. Through the app, you can submit an entry application in advance and undergo a preliminary check.
After completing the required procedures, RuID may generate a QR code containing the foreign citizen’s personal details and information about the trip.
What Should You Do Before Your Trip?
If you are planning to enter Russia without a visa, we recommend installing RuID in advance and completing the required steps in the app.
If a QR code is generated, save it and be prepared to present it if necessary.
If you have completed all the required steps but the code has not appeared, check the status of your application and the information provided in the app.
Most importantly, do not leave RuID registration until the day of your trip. It is better to set everything up in advance so that you know the status of your application before crossing the border and have enough time to resolve any potential issues.

What If You Previously Entered Russia Without RuID?
The rules and how they are applied may change. The fact that you were not asked to use the app or present a QR code on a previous trip does not mean the same will be true the next time you enter Russia.
Before each trip, check the latest requirements on official government resources.
And remember: RuID does not replace other documents and procedures required for a foreign citizen to legally stay and work in Russia.
