A work patent is the main document for a labor migrant. As long as it is valid and paid on time, you can work legally. In practice, however, most problems arise именно during the extension process.
A patent is extended only by making a monthly advance payment of personal income tax (PIT). No application for extension is required. The key point is that the payment must be credited before the end date of the paid month. If the payment arrives even one day late, the patent is automatically considered invalid.
Important: Banks or payment terminals may process payments within 1–3 days. Therefore, it is better to pay in advance—at least 3–5 days before the due date.
The maximum validity period of a patent is 12 months. Even if you have paid without any delays, after 12 months the patent must be reissued from scratch. This requires passing a medical examination, an exam, and submitting documents again. Many people forget this and continue working, which is a violation.
Working without proper notification is a risk of patent cancellation. After signing an employment contract, the employer must submit a notification to the Ministry of Internal Affairs within 3 working days. If this is not done, the patent may be canceled even if payments are made on time. It is better to confirm with your employer that the notification has been submitted and keep proof.
If your registration expires earlier than your patent, this is a violation of migration rules. Registration must be extended on time, especially when changing your place of residence or employment.
Changing jobs is also important. When you change employers, a new notification must be submitted. Many people think it is enough to simply start working at another place—this is a mistake.
Be careful with intermediaries. Promises to “extend a patent without payment,” “restore it after a delay,” or “solve the issue through contacts” are almost always scams. There are no legal ways to do this.
