A work permit allows a foreign citizen to work officially in Russia. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) may refuse either to accept the application or to issue the permit itself.
The MIA will not accept documents if:
- the documents are invalid;
- they contain corrections or damage;
- the text is unreadable;
- there are errors in the personal data;
- the documents have expired.
In such cases, a notification explaining the reason for the refusal will be sent to your personal account. Once the errors are corrected, you may submit the application again.
Why can a work permit be denied?
After reviewing the documents, the MIA may refuse to issue a work permit if the foreign citizen:
- is under 18 years of age;
- submitted forged documents;
- provided false information about themselves;
- has a criminal conviction for a committed offense;
- has moved to another country for permanent residence.
What should you do if your application is denied?
If you receive a refusal, carefully review the reason. In some cases, it is enough to correct an error in the documents and submit a new application.
If you believe the refusal is unjustified, you can file a complaint through Gosuslugi or contact the MIA office where the documents were submitted.
Before applying, make sure to carefully check all documents and personal information. An error in your surname, document number, or an expired certificate may result in a refusal even if all other requirements have been met.
To monitor your migration status in advance, you can use the Migrant ID service in the SalamPay app. The service allows you to check your status in the RKL database and learn about possible violations of Russian migration law.
